Company History

It all began back in ...

1961

when Kaspar Mosimann, a skilled locksmith, decided to set up his own business. He was over 40, had a large family and was living on a low income.

First came the

benches.

Kaspar developed a bench with an upper section which could be easily removed by detaching only two screws. The upper section was attached to a concrete base which could be simply hammered into the ground. He had the bench patented and sold it to many local authorities.

As he grew older, he enlisted the help of his

son

as Kaspar wasn’t very keen on office work. He was pleased when his son Walter came to work in the business and helped him to manage these affairs.

Then came the ...

first dog toilet

The benches were already a hit with the local authorities who also started to enquire about dog toilets. So, in 1975, Kaspar and Walter constructed the first dog toilet. It consisted of a sandpit with a waste container, a shovel and a rake.

The

Retirement

Kaspar worked in the company for a long time. He took a fluid approach to his retirement and continued to contribute innovative ideas to the business every now and again.

New ...

ideas

We suddenly struck upon a completely new idea: why not scoop up the dog poop with a bag? It would be clean, environmentally-friendly and simple to use. We experimented and tested until our tear-off bags met the high standard we were aiming for. They were finally ready to be launched onto the market. These types of bags have now become a well-established product on the European market.

belloo

was born.

The belloo brand was launched in the year 2000. When we introduced our dog toilet, boasting our eye-catching logo comprising a dog’s head and attractive lettering, we had created a truly distinctive brand.

Support provided by ...

... Walter’s brother

At the end of 1999, Walter’s brother Hubert joined the company. This was when the business was being converted into a public limited company.

Practica AG

From the year 2000, the company traded under the name practica AG and gradually established itself as a leading dog toilet manufacturer.

The next ...

generation

arrives on the scene. Walter’s son Severin then decided to join the business. He initially needed to gain experience out in the field and visited all our customers. He then headed up the product development.

Waste containers

These changes also led to the development of new waste container products. As dog toilets and waste containers work in a very similar way, we decided to develop new waste containers and integrated the dog toilet directly into the waste containers.

A real ...

family business

In 2008, Walter’s daughter Marisa joined the business which made practica AG a real family business. Marisa is responsible for the entire marketing function and is looking after the sales department an interim basis.

A brand name had to be found ...

contuu

The newly-developed waste containers needed a new brand name, and so “contuu” was born. We were then able to offer waste containers with bag dispensers (belloo) and waste containers without bag dispensers (contuu).

Establishing the

GmbH

Germany became our most important market. In 2015, we decided to establish a separate subsidiary company. practica GmbH Lörrach has been operating very successfully since then under Severin’s leadership.

Materials.

We are passionate about the importance of constantly evolving and innovating. We continually test new materials in order to improve our existing concepts. The most recent fruit of our labours is our new waste container called PRIME.
